Social Security Disability Costs

There is no filing fee to apply for Social Security Disability.

Social Security will order and pay for your medical records at the first two levels of review.

However, when you request a hearing you must pay to update your medical records. Depending on the number of doctors and records this can add up in cost.

You must also pay for any Doctor’s reports or letters. This can be expensive. They may range from $100 to $1,000.

The advantage of using a lawyer is that the lawyer will often pay for the medical records and doctor reports up front.

There is also the cost of seeking medical treatment.

These costs must be kept in perspective.

A life time of benefits is worth some upfront costs.

Any New Illinois Work Comp Claims?

Illinois Workers’ Compensation claims after August 31, 2011 are treated differently than old claims.

Insurance Companies will be watching these claims closely.

They will argue that their settlement value is reduced.

Work Comp companies will fight to find doctors who will testify that there is little or no permanent injury.

The value of settlement offers will probably be much lower.

What has been your experience?

Have you seen any offers for your injury after August 2011?

Should You Get Social Security Disability Help?

When you think about it using a lawyer in a Social Security Disability case, it makes a lot of sense.

I have seen cases when people represent themselves, and there are too many ways to mess your case up.

What is the down side of using a lawyer?

You have to pay a fee if you win?

The fee is capped at $6,000, and the only way you owe any money is if you win back benefits.

In other words, you get 75 percent of the back benefits.

You also do not have to pay any fee on the monthly benefits you receive from Social Security.

You get lifetime benefits and only have to pay a small fee.

The peace of mind is worth it.
