Social Security provides two important benefits if you are found disabled.
Monthly payments for the extent of your disability.
Medical coverage.
The amount of your monthly payment is based on the number of years you have worked and the amount you have paid into the system through your payroll taxes.
The formula is complicated, but you can contact your local Social Security office and ask for an estimate of what amount you would have coming to you.
You are also entitled to medical coverage through Medicare if you are found disabled.
Medicare coverage starts approximately 3 years after your onset of disability.
This, of course, is a very important benefit.
Some people can be eligible for Medicaid immediately if they qualify financially.

You are entitled to two-thirds of your wage based on the 52 weeks before your injury. You will need to have a doctor taking you off work due to your work injury.
You are entitled to 60 percent of your wage based on the 52 weeks before your injury times a certain number of weeks. For instance, the back is worth 500 weeks total. If you have an injury that is worth 10 percent of the back, then you are entitled to 50 weeks.
This is commonly referred to as the settlement, or lump sum payment.
