Let’s face it, Social Security Disability is a last resort. It is not really that much money.
Most people would certainly rather work if they could.
So part-time work would be welcome and helpful.
If you receive SSI any part-time work is subtracted from your benefits.
However, if you receive regular Social Security Disability, or what is sometimes called Title II benefits, you may work part-time and keep all your Social Security Disability benefits.
There are limits to the amounts you may earn while on Social Security Disability.
There a number of complex rules about working while on disability, but the easiest way to look at it is that you cannot earn more than $1010 gross per month in your part-time job.
Gross means before anything is taken out of your check for taxes or anything else.
The other thing to think about is the type of part-time job you work.
Social Security will review your case every two to five years.
At that time Social Security will determine that whether you are still disabled or not.
This means that if you are working a job that is strenuous, then you may jeopardize your disability payments.
So choose wisely in working part-time because it may affect your disability benefits.
