Social Security and Medicare certainly make up a large part of the budget. However, the real budget problems are ongoing spending sprees in many other areas of the budget. There is no guarantee that with Social Security and Medicare reforms budget problems will not continue.

Social Security Disability and Mental Illness

Is Mental Illness alone, without significant physical problems, enough for you to be found disabled?

Social Security Judges will find a person who has severe mental illness disabled, even without physical problems.

However, you must show more than treatment with a primary care doctor who prescribes your depression medication.

You will need treatment with a counselor, or a psychiatrist.

You will most likely need to show hospitalizations for your mental illness, possibly multiple hospital stays.

Extreme treatment, such as shock treatment will also be important.

The most important thing to remember is that limitations are the name of the game in Social Security Disability.

If the Administrative Law Judge believes your mental illness will keep you from concentrating enough to stay on task, and your problems make you miss work once a week, then you will be found disabled.
