Is It Too Late to Get a Work Comp Lawyer?
Some people want to see if they will get a settlement offer on their Workers’ Compensation case before they look for a lawyer.
Some lawyers will not take a case when you already have a written offer.
However, my feeling is that if you want to try to better your offer I will be glad to help.
Once you have a written offer, in Illinois, the Work Comp lawyer cannot charge a fee on this amount.
The lawyer can only charge a fee for the amounts you get beyond the written settlement offer.
For instance, if your written offer was $100 and the lawyer negotiates a final settlement of $140 then you are only charged a fee on the $40.
Many workmans compensation insurance companies will not negotiate with the injured worker.
You will need to hire an attorney to get them to budge.
It is worth it because you do not have to pay any fee on the initial written offer you received without a lawyer.
