MetroLink fatality: Wildlife agency says Metro called woman to remove opossum | Belleville News-Democrat Belleville News-Democrat

A Metro spokeswoman on Wednesday again declined to comment on the fatal train strike that left animal rehabilitator Sandra Konopelski, 58, of Shiloh dead on the tracks near the Swansea station Friday. But the president of the wildlife-rescue hotline Konopelski worked for said Konopelski was notified by Metro officials there was an opossum on the tracks.

This is a terrible tragedy. Assuming the injured person worked for the employer, then she would be able to file a Workers’ Compensation claim. People who act as volunteers face a more difficult path such as a negligence claim against someone. Prayers and thoughts to her family and friends.
