How Do I Apply for Social Security Disability?

You used to be able to call the local Social Security Office or go in person to apply for Social Security Disability.

Now Social Security wants you to do many things online, including applying for disability.

The online application asks questions about your background, children, marriage, work history, medications, doctors and hospitals.

It takes one to two hours, and can be frustrating.

The quicker you file the better.

The process of applying and going through the review take from three to six months. If you are required to go to a hearing this will take an additional nine to twelve months.

You can also lose back benefits if you do not apply in a timely manner.

I help people file for Social Security Disability benefits online. This will get you into the system faster and reduce your frustration.

Is It Too Late to Get a Work Comp Lawyer?

Some people want to see if they will get a settlement offer on their Workers’ Compensation case before they look for a lawyer.

Some lawyers will not take a case when you already have a written offer.

However, my feeling is that if you want to try to better your offer I will be glad to help.

Once you have a written offer, in Illinois, the Work Comp lawyer cannot charge a fee on this amount.

The lawyer can only charge a fee for the amounts you get beyond the written settlement offer.

For instance, if your written offer was $100 and the lawyer negotiates a final settlement of $140 then you are only charged a fee on the $40.

Many workmans compensation insurance companies will not negotiate with the injured worker.

You will need to hire an attorney to get them to budge.

It is worth it because you do not have to pay any fee on the initial written offer you received without a lawyer.
